Curatorial analysis

A pure cylinder that chooses not to close. The entire gravitational pull of this volume condenses in the enduring tension between the geometric firmness of its outer curve and the sharp incision that interrupts its trajectory. The form, which initially evokes the relentless precision of an industrial conduit or an airtight ring, is dismantled by abrupt cuts and fractured profiles. This fracture creates an irregular mouth through which the surrounding space does not merely envelop the metal, but penetrates and inhabits its center.

The cobalt blue of the surface operates not as a mere ornamental coating, but as a direct activator of light. Thanks to an even, reflective satin sheen, the sculpture's skin modulates ambient reflections, allowing them to glide in continuous gradations across its convex face, while projecting a deep, almost liquid shadow inside the internal concavity. It is along the sharp edges and cutaway borders where the sheen encounters its greatest tension: there, the light sharpens, revealing the tangible thickness of the sheet and establishing an evident counterpoint between the enveloping smoothness of the cylindrical plane and the serrated sharpness of the cutout.

Bearing the title Eslabón, the proposal raises an immediate constructive paradox. A link finds its natural purpose in closure, in the clasp that enables the tension of a chain; this specimen, however, appears autonomous and severed. In remaining incomplete, the object surrenders its utilitarian binding function to question the very notion of connection. The void it shelters ceases to be a passive absence and becomes the true active core of the work, transforming a compact metallic piece into a breathing spatial device, held between the pristine quality of curved order and the uncertainty of rupture.
