Curatorial analysis

A tire swing suspended by a single rope immediately evokes childhood play, lightness, and swaying in the open air, yet this object subverts any promise of rest or innocence. What should welcome the human body turns into a puncturing device, blanketed by a dense armor of thousands of sharpened pencil tips that bristle along the tire's outer circumference, transforming the rubber into a prickly, almost animal hide.

The material contrast carries the object's entire conceptual weight. Against the smooth black interior of the wheel, which remains a dark and sterile rim, the outer surface becomes a vegetative hedgehog or a medieval trap. The circular scale imposes a closed, centripetal rhythm, where the vertical rope introduces the sole axis of tension holding the structure against the stark white void of the wall. This suspension lends it an ambiguous gravity: it hangs awaiting human interaction that is impossible without inflicting self-harm.

Frontal light catches the dark graphite tips, creating a vibrant, menacing halo around the silhouette of the tire. This obsessive repetition of shaved wood and lead points also hints at a subtle commentary on the instruments of learning and discipline. The pencil, a tool of expression, writing, or school drawing, stripped here of its primary creative function, accumulates until it builds a collective edge.

By denying the physical function for which its base was conceived, the piece confronts viewers through their tactile memory. Play remains held in tense equilibrium with punishment, turning a universal icon of domestic fun into a reflection on vulnerability, restrained aggression, and the boundaries of comfort.
