Curatorial analysis

There is a deliberate lightness in the signs floating above this dense, sandy surface. Across a mineral field, where warm greys and ochres acquire the consistency of a weathered wall or eroded ground, bold strokes of primary and secondary color burst forth: a vivid red curving upward, saturated greens, yellow cylinders, suspended black marks, and a white bar rising like a solitary signal.

The lower section rests on a veil of greyish blues and soft sky tones applied in vertical bands, whose transparencies reveal drips and glazes. This base evokes the stillness of water or a fence blurred by time, upon which a rough horizon charged with yellow impasto and textured paste is established. From that dividing line, the picture opens into an airier atmosphere, where shapes shed gravity and seem to hover within suspended space.

Herrera balances heavy matter with an almost playful calligraphy. The monumental scale of the canvas magnifies the gestural nature of each mark, rendering the color blocks as fragments of a primordial language prior to words. The opacity of the pure pigments contrasts sharply with the porosity of the background, ensuring that light does not emanate from the depths of the canvas, but from the collision between chromatic purity and the muted silence of the ground.

The title turns the viewer's gaze toward the realm of early memory, where objects possess no defined borders and the world is experienced as an accumulation of tactile, luminous, and direct impulses. There is no visible anecdote or recognizable figure; childhood is ciphered in the pleasure of uninhibited mark-making, in the play of overlaps, and in the strange certainty that a single bar of color is enough to hold the weight of an entire earthy sky.
