Curatorial analysis

A contained burst of yellows and ochres shatters the rigor of a predominantly mineral territory. In this monumental format of one and a half meters on each side, Ramón Chirinos does not describe a dawn through the placid contemplation of the horizon, but as a tectonic eruption: the exact moment when clarity tears through the gloom and fractures the matter that sought to contain it. The surface is organized through a veiled grid of orthogonal planes, where opaque blocks of cement gray, chalk whites, and resolute blacks coexist, conversing between the solidity of a dismantled architecture and the weightlessness of a dense haze.

The pulse of the painting lies in the constant tension between containment and overflow. Toward the upper-middle band, golden luminosity burns in a heavily loaded horizontal strip, contrasted by a dark, almost cavernous mass at the central axis. Chirinos superimposes contrasting densities with a mixed media approach rich in incisions; there are areas where the palette knife scrapes away the pigment to reveal previous strata, while calligraphic filaments, subtle drips, and minuscule accents of vermilion red function as electric sparks across the canvas. These linear marks are not mere graphic embellishments; they are the fissures through which the scaffolding of the painting breathes.

Light operates here as an active element of dissection. Rather than dissolving shadows, it sharpens them and shifts them toward the margins, compelling the eye to traverse a cartography of remnants and reconstructions. Standing before the canvas, the viewer perceives the transition of awakening not as a gradual passage, but as a physical event in which nocturnal silence yields to luminous vibration. The piece achieves its power within that motionless suspension, where that which is born and that which crumbles occupy the exact same space.
