Curatorial analysis

A scorching tide of red poppies overflows the lower third of the canvas, climbing at a dizzying pace until it dissolves against a curtain of silver and ash. Across this monumentally scaled surface, the contrast is far from timid: the dense, corporeal weight of red pigment collides head-on with the almost liquid weightlessness of the background, where acrylic drips down in slender vertical trails as if a fogged glass or a curtain of rain stood between the viewer and the scene.

The plane is structured with rigorous frontality. Below, the corollas crowd into an obsessive, compact pattern where each flower, distilled into defined petals and dark cores, competes for space in absolute saturation. As the eye ascends, this botanical density fractures. Stems elongate, calyxes grow sparser, and the organic mass yields ground to a mist-laden void. This gradation does not pursue traditional linear perspective; it operates instead as an atmospheric pulse, a transition from the telluric toward the ethereal.

The gray washes, veined with faint traces of ochre and washed-out violet, function as a mineral echo. Set against the vibration of scarlet, that upper space holds the painting's silence. The gesture of dripping introduces time: the impression of persistent moisture or an optical fade caused by the morning glare. There is neither explicit sky nor ground, only the confrontation between vegetal persistence and the mist that threatens to swallow it.

The horizontal span of the format accentuates this immersive experience. Gómez offers a landscape devoid of geographical anecdotes, resting instead upon a pure sensory state where the opulence of the bloom and the coldness of the air coexist in a balance as tense as it is magnetic.
