Curatorial analysis

Thick, almost geological impasto commands the eye before any recognizable form manages to settle. Across a monumental square canvas, pigment gathers into ridges, scrapes, and furrows that turn the surface into a tactile relief, where paint does not merely depict a landscape but acts as a physical presence standing between the viewer and the outside world.

From this material magma emerge slender stems and frayed floral corollas, rendered in dark gestural marks and touches of deep violet that anchor the scene in a hesitant vertical rhythm. The flowers seem to withstand a gust of wind or the weight of a dense atmosphere. Along the flanks, blocks of toasted ochre and golden hues frame the central area, where pale cerulean and chalky whites carve out an opening of light, resembling a transparency veiled by weathering or the condensation of damp glass.

A thermal dialogue sustains the constant tension of the piece: warm, earthy, dense tones collide with the watery coolness of the lower third, resolved as a horizontal expanse of washed blue that evokes a ledge, standing water, or the physical threshold of observation. This clearer base contrasts sharply with the textural explosion of the midground, where discreet accents of vermilion and pure yellow punctuate the foliage with restrained vitality.

Rather than recording a recognizable garden, the painting explores the condition of a filter. The botanical motif recedes and re-emerges depending on how light strikes the acrylic ridges, proposing a contemplative experience that fluctuates between an eroded wall and an open aperture. What we encounter is not pristine nature, but the sensory memory of a garden sifted through time, weather, and the sheer density of painted matter.
