Curatorial analysis

The canvas offers neither a resting point nor a horizon toward which the gaze might escape: it acts instead as an immersive botanical tide overflowing its eight-foot panoramic format. The entire surface is seized by a tireless multitude of stylized corollas and petals, executed through precise, bodily touches of acrylic. Each small floral unit, endowed with dark shadows at its core and defined edges, retains a tactile individuality that, multiplied by the thousands, transforms into a purely vibrating fabric.

The chromatic distribution avoids both symmetry and mechanical patterning. Although at first glance it resembles a continuous tapestry, the eye soon discovers distinct thermal currents and clusters. Dense nodes of an almost velvety crimson red concentrate in the lower left zone and toward the center, interrupted by archipelagos of cobalt and cerulean blues that introduce a sudden chill, as if a gust of wind were sweeping through the dense vegetation. Toward the upper area and the edges, bright yellows and luminous whites lighten the pictorial mass, generating a luminous fluctuation that simulates the flicker of sunlight over a wild flowerbed in full bloom.

By dispensing with the traditional landscape perspective, Álvaro Gómez places the viewer within an almost microscopic intimacy that simultaneously feels monumental due to its scale. The work oscillates skillfully between descriptive naturalism and rigorous gestural abstraction. Up close, each brushstroke is pure matter, a textured relief of curved contours and direct blends; from a distance, those individual marks collapse into a single rhythmic surface, an optical burst celebrating the saturation and organic persistence of life in constant flowering.
