Curatorial analysis

The pulse of the painting gathers in a central burst that seems to emerge from a severe architecture of grays and whites. In Canto Lírico de un Viñedo, the large-format square surface (150 × 150 cm) operates as a field of tensions where constructive restraint and gestural spill coexist without canceling each other out.

Broad angular planes, executed in gradations of ash, pearl, and charcoal, establish an almost tectonic framework, a scaffolding of sorts that anchors the scene across all four quadrants. Confronting this structural stillness, the heart of the canvas overflows with nervous calligraphy: delicate graphic filaments, scrapings into the paint layer, and a constellation of vibrant specks in ochre, burnt orange, vermilion, and purple. These organic traces evoke the plant cycle, tightly packed grape clusters, or dry leaves suddenly ignited by harvest light.

The mixed media approach reveals an accumulative process where broad palette knife passes, translucent glazes, and direct incisions into wet impasto intertwine. This layering produces a singular luminous vibration, as the whites function not as passive voids, but as fissures that puncture the stony mass of grays and project forward the chromatic polyphony at the center.

The title invokes the landscape of the vineyard, yet the canvas rejects descriptive mimesis. Ramón Chirinos articulates a sensory resonance: the memory of tilled earth, the rigorous alignment of planting rows, and, simultaneously, the vital disorder of sap during ripening. The eye traverses the painting suspended between the firmness of mineral order and the diminutive, festive song beating at its core.
