Curatorial analysis

A stiletto heel emerges not from leather or industrial fabric, but from a porous, weathered plant skeleton that seems retrieved from the harshest elements. Alexander Chaves strips the quintessential silhouette of women's footwear of its accommodating surface, transforming it into a defensive structure that is simultaneously fossil and organic. The shoe’s body, traversed by a cellular network of cavities recalling the fibrous interior of a cactus, surrenders any promise of wearability, presenting itself as an exoskeleton that repels touch.

From this perforated mass emerge sharp quills with carmine-tinted tips, resembling pencil leads that project forward like stings or poised claws. This insertion radically alters the accessory’s meaning: that which was designed to slenderize the gait and accentuate sensuality turns into a piercing device, capable of wounding whoever might dare to wear it or draw near. The reddish accent, measured with precision at the toe, functions as a chromatic warning signaling the latent aggression of the design.

The chosen base, a horizontal block of dark stone with a polished upper face and fractured edges, anchors the sculpture in absolute gravity. The airy fragility of the hollowed material contrasts with the geological solidity of the pedestal, while a slender heel elevates the arch with almost architectural precision. Light filtering through the perforations casts shifting shadows across the stony surface, reinforcing the impression of a mineralized relic that still retains its capacity to intimidate.

In articulating this material metamorphosis, the artist condenses a reflection on the physical demands of aesthetic canons, converting the fetish of elegance into armored protection. Subverting mere ornamental charm, the object functions as a taut amulet where pain, seduction, and warning coexist upon the very same last.
