Curatorial analysis

Hundreds of sharpened pencil tips transform a traditional moulding into a bristling, almost organic structure, where the elemental tool of drawing renounces mark-making to become an armor. Arranged in a compact, obsessive agglomeration, conical wood shavings and their graphite cores cluster tightly along the rectangular perimeter, projecting outward an unbroken row of dark barbs that defy touch.

The assemblage operates on an evident material and conceptual paradox. The pencil, conceived to record thought and caress paper, mutates here into a piercing barrier whose defensive geometry recalls the shell of an urchin or a miniature barricade. On the front face, the severed tips generate a vibrant texture of terracotta tones, honey-colored splinters, and dense blacks, achieving a rough surface that absorbs and fractures light into thousands of tiny triangular shadows. Toward the outer edges, the regularity of the sharpened apexes accentuates the rigidity of the rectangle, containing the form's aggression within an impeccable orthogonal order.

By stripping the device of its canvas or central sheet, the gaze remains irrevocably trapped within the central opening. The frame no longer fulfills its historical role of sheltering or signaling an external image: it has devoured itself to stand as the exclusive content of the aesthetic experience. That blank, neutral void is not an omission, but the direct resonance of its title. The absence of pictorial representation at the core turns the boundary itself into the event, suggesting a biting reflection on the limits of art, the overprotection of the artwork, and the sacrificial wear of the tools that make any image possible.
