Curatorial analysis

A fist clenched with monolithic force rises from a vertical block of andesite. This is not merely a gesture of resistance or anatomical tension: between the tightly held fingers emerge, piercing through the core of the hand, several sharpened Faber Castell pencil tips projecting outward like dark thorns. The material pairing confronts the viewer with a violent contradiction between the telluric heaviness of volcanic rock and the sharp fragility of graphite.

The carving retains the natural coarseness of the mineral grain. Rather than pursuing a classical polish, the surface exhibits deliberate incisions, almost calligraphic grooves that define tendons, skin folds, and joint creases with direct graphic rawness. Raking light does not glide over the figure; it fragments within the minute cavities of the andesite and accentuates the drama of the carved lines, turning the limb into a petrified framework caught mid-spasm. The cylindrical forearm functions as an austere shaft that channels all visual energy toward the upper knot where stone flesh and foreign objects collide.

Bearing the title Silencio, the insertion of the pencils opens ethical and expressive interpretations. The primary tool of drawing, writing, and taking a stance remains imprisoned, transformed simultaneously into a defensive weapon and a piercing stigma wounding the limb itself. The image suggests both the gag and pain of repressed testimony and the stubborn resistance of one who, even at the breaking point, refuses to release the instruments of thought. The silence of stone does not blunt the edge of what is contained; it locks it into a tense, threatening stillness.
