Curatorial analysis

An extended horizon of more than two meters opens as a living strip where vegetation and mist negotiate their territory. In Tarde Tornasol, Cristian Navarro proposes a frontal immersion into a dense vegetal stratum that does not seek to depict a specific landscape, but rather to capture the tactile and luminous vibration of a thicket at dusk. The panoramic scale envelops the gaze, compelling it to travel from one end to the other, following a continuous cadence of stems, reeds, and suspended sparks.

The structure is sustained by a rhythmic lattice of intersecting diagonals and vertical lines. These sharp blades, built through subtle transparencies and scrapings in blue, ochre, and deep green tones, form a screen that arrests visual depth. From that dense mass emerge dark, sinuous filaments outlined by whitish halos that seem charged with an electrical phosphorescence. Each stem culminates in capsules or spheres of pure pigment that float like glowing pollen, seeds, or will-o'-the-wisps amidst the gloom.

Toward the upper section, botanical density gradually dissolves into a pulverized atmosphere, a hazy sky composed of a mist of micro-droplets that softens the background contours. This upper void, saturated with pearl greys and milky whites, contrasts sharply with the shadowy, rich base, where dots of primary color (vermilion reds, warm yellows, cobalt blues, and turquoises) take on the brilliance of gemstones against black soil.

The interplay between the graphic line and the vaporous field defines the poetry of the painting. Situated between material abstraction and stylized botanical figuration, the space suggests the thick humidity and iridescent twilight of a tropical wetland as daylight yields to night, turning everyday undergrowth into a hypnotic, almost cosmic occurrence.
