Curatorial analysis

A stem bent at an acute angle supports a heavy corolla, suspended in an almost mineral stillness. Against an ochre background reminiscent of aged parchment or raw canvas, the plant form unfolds not as a faithful botanical study, but as a dense, spectral presence. What immediately commands attention is the force of the dark contour, whose mass of deep greens and earthy shadows seems to buckle under the weight of its own substance, tracing an arc of tension that cuts vertically through the plane.

Beneath and behind this primary figure emerges its double, a faint silhouette that echoes the petals and stem with a mottled texture, akin to the weave of lace or withered plant skin. This duplication justifies the title with singular subtlety: the reflection occurs neither on water nor in quicksilver, but within the memory of the surface itself. The screenprint harnesses the layering of translucent inks to yield distinct planes of depth, where patterned motifs inside the leaves converse with areas of resounding opacity.

Cutting across this botanical choreography, a light, cursive script runs along the upper third and base of the sheet. The line of the handwriting, barely legible, acts not as an explanatory legend, but as a continuous graphic weave, an ambient murmur binding the literary to the organic. Words slip beneath the stem in certain sections and seem to hover above it in others, dissolving the boundary between intimate confession and formal impulse. The result is a suspended space, where botany transforms into visual meditation and the drawing retreats into its own shadow.
