Curatorial analysis

The ground appears to have endured the weathering of time before receiving the image. Over an intensely porous backdrop that alternates coppery oxides, burnt earths, and ashen grays, the silhouette of a vase with lilies emerges as though resisting dissolution. There is a fascinating tactile quality to this surface, where the screenprint deliberately renounces the clean graphic flatness of unmodulated ink to build the roughness of a peeling wall, a veiled print, or paper saturated with dark sediment.

At the central axis of the frame, the globular vessel grounds and anchors a serene yet rigorous verticality. The main stem cuts through the neck of the container like a dense stroke of brown ink, guiding the eye toward the upper cluster of closed buds and open blossoms. Rendered with off-white highlights and subtle greenish shadows, these corollas droop in gestures of restrained languor. One falls toward the left in a heavy, nodding curve, while the others reach upward in search of light. The luminous fragility of the petals contrasts sharply with the surrounding earthy atmosphere, establishing a tension between plant freshness and the mineral corrosion of the surrounding space.

Around the belly of the vase and scattered across the lower margins, a cursive script, semi-hidden and indecipherable, introduces the ghostly presence of handwriting. These calligraphic lines do not seek to deliver a readable message: they act as strata of memory merging with the coffee grounds and rust of the background, as if the image were a letter rescued from dampness or the residue of a forgotten confidence. The lilies are thus captured not as a mere botanical still life, but as the quiet testimony of a domestic intimacy where the fleeting nature of the flower and the wearing of the paper converse in a shared melancholic stillness.
