Curatorial analysis

A white flower, suspended against a background that fluctuates between verdigris and cerulean blue, inaugurates a space where botany merges with memory. Guillermo Conte structures this silkscreen print around a vertical stem rising with lightness, crowned by petals that appear to have been laid down swiftly across the plane. There is no intention of scientific fidelity here; the floral forms are constructed through visual impastos of chalk white, broad and nearly flat strokes that capture the blossoming as a fleeting gleam against the dense atmosphere enveloping it.

The background operates like an eroded wall or a mineral surface worn down by water and time. Within it, faded greens and deep blues overlap in broken matrices, scrapings, and transparencies that evoke pictorial glazes rather than the mechanical purity of a print run. This murky atmosphere creates an uncertain depth, where an area of clearer light behind the vegetal axis grants the branch a subtle relief, holding it in suspense between foreground presence and chromatic dissolution.

Over this botanical scene bursts an unexpected stratum, a dark cobalt blue calligraphy sweeping across the lower half of the sheet. The manual stroke emulates the intimate pulse of a letter, a diary entry, or a field note whose signs have been rendered truncated or undecipherable. By superimposing itself over both flora and background, the text transforms the image into a palimpsest where words refuse readability to become pure gesture. The contrast between the organic clarity of the white flowers and the fluid graphic cadence of the writing establishes a poetic coexistence: the natural and the human do not illustrate one another, but coexist as layered remnants of a moment fading on the paper.
