Curatorial analysis
Light does not merely illuminate this surface: it penetrates it, refracts, and remains trapped within an intricate architecture of internal fissures and amber flashes. This female torso, conceived entirely in resin of a deep coppery and reddish hue, behaves before the eye like a fragment of petrified magma, halted at the precise moment when burning fire transmutates into perennial matter. The title of the piece directly invokes the telluric power of the Poás volcano, projecting onto human anatomy an inexhaustible geological force that seems to beat and vibrate from within the transparent material.
The figure deliberately dispenses with head, arms, and legs to engage in dialogue with the heritage of the classical torso, concentrating its entire expressive charge within the continuous cadence of the silhouette. A subtle and eloquent contrapposto emerges; the gentle elevation of the hip naturally shifts the center of gravity, establishing a sinuous axis that travels across the abdomen, ascends snugly through the waist, and culminates in the asymmetrical tilt of the chest and truncated shoulders. This helicoidal rhythm endows the sculptural mass with an uncanny lightness, as though the volume were hovering above its base in dynamic repose, suspended just before completing an imperceptible turn in space.
The greatest magnetism arises from the confrontation between the resin's exterior finish and its interior complexity. The visible epidermis offers a smooth, lustrous, continuous polish capable of gliding light with the clarity and gleam of flawless glass. Beneath that calm skin, however, the core reveals a turbulent landscape of faceted planes, controlled fractures, and inclusions that multiply refraction, evoking the igneous depths of a magmatic chamber. In this way, the sculpture becomes an incandescent prism that seems to radiate its own temperature, reconciling the sensual purity of organic curves with the seismic memory of the earth.
