Curatorial analysis

Light does not merely strike this volume: it passes through and remains trapped within. In this piece, Angel Lara takes the classical tradition of the fragmented torso and casts it in an entirely contemporary medium. The resin, tinted in a shade that shifts between deep amber and dense ruby, transforms the female anatomy into a vessel of luminosity that feels liquid, frozen just a moment before spilling over.

The axis of the figure breaks into a subtle, tense contrapposto. The left hip rises to accentuate a pronounced curve, while the shoulders counterbalance the shift in a gentle diagonal tilt. There is neither head nor complete limbs; this deliberate suppression strips the body of any anecdotal identity, focusing all attention on the transitions of the flesh, such as the hollow of the sternum, the arch of the ribs, and the gentle swell of the belly. These modulations operate not only as anatomical relief, but as lenses that refract and concentrate beams of light along gleaming edges.

Against the flawless polish and optical weightlessness of the torso, the rough, heavy quadrangular base provides the necessary grounding. This tension between the metallic hardness of the pedestal and the fleshy sensuality of the translucent mass heightens the figure's vibration. Beneath the transparent skin, internal veils and mineral bubbles emerge, evoking the fossilization of ancient sap.

Understood through its materiality, the work presents a paradox between the imperishable and the vulnerable. Skin does not conceal organs, but rather an igneous substance suspended in time, transforming the memory of a tangible body into pure luminous presence.
