Curatorial analysis

Atmosphere establishes itself before any recognizable topography can emerge. Across this square-format canvas, the setting of the Barva volcano translates not as a documentary or scenic record, but as a visceral immersion into the density of the cloud forest. The eye penetrates a tangled vegetative thicket where upper canopies, wrapped in heavy shadows and olive greens, gradually yield to an incandescent core of ochres, golds, and vibrant ambers. Light does not enter as a clearly defined exterior beam; rather, it appears to emanate from within the foliage itself, as if plant matter preserved its own glow amidst the mist.

The use of epoxy acrylic lends the surface a tactile, almost geological density. A dynamic interplay of optical strata unfolds where vitreous glazes converse with rough impastos, scumbled textures, and suspended filaments reminiscent of lianas, spiderwebs, or viscous sap dripping in the gloom. Along the lower margin, the forest floor erupts into a constellation of vermilion, magenta, and carmine tones that ground the composition with an earthy chromatic weight, standing in stark contrast to the floating luminosity of the midground and the vegetal darkness overhead.

This rhythm of material layering disrupts conventional notions of perspective. The implied lagoon and its banks remain veiled beneath mist and botanical accumulation, transmuting the space into a territory where memory reconstructs the landscape from climatic sensations (condensed humidity, the warm filtration of hazy daylight, the fertile decay of leaf litter). Rather than contemplating a passive setting from afar, the viewer is enveloped by the humid intimacy of a living mountain, suspended between the drive of abstract gesture and organic evocation.
