Curatorial analysis

Three niches constructed through theatrical perspective organize this panoramic space, framed at the top and bottom by a geometric zigzag border in gold and vermilion. The structure of yellow shelves defines compartmentalized chambers that function as curiosity cabinets or miniature stages. In each recess, the pictorial ground takes on a distinct temperature and texture, worked through scraping, overlapping layers, and traces of barely legible handwriting that lend the wall the quality of a domestic palimpsest.

On the left, against an olive green ground saturated with script, a green vase holds a bouquet of scarlet flowers next to a miniature red ladder leaning against emptiness, introducing a disconcerting dislocation of scale. At the opposite end, in a niche dominated by earthy carmine and dense shadows, rests a striated squash whose rounded volume engages in dialogue with the silence of classical still life. Between these two quiet, vegetal bookends, the central compartment opens onto a different dimension: a toy train advances across the white shelf, puffing a dense cloud of cottony smoke while transporting two golden silhouettes of ballerinas on pointe.

The coexistence of still lifes and toys in motion suspends the scene within a realm close to playful reverie. The central background, darkened with bluish glazes and filigrees evoking antique lace, accentuates the theatrical character of the locomotive. A finely calculated tension emerges between the architectural stability of the yellow uprights and the lightness of the white smoke that defies the stillness of the objects. The handwritten texts on the backgrounds reinforce this intimate aura, suggesting marginal notes or cryptic diaries that safeguard the memory of household relics. The painting operates as a secular altarpiece where everyday items transmute into fantastical narrative.
