Curatorial analysis

A vertical format measuring one hundred and fifty by fifty centimeters commands a sequential reading, reminiscent of a secular altarpiece or a cabinet of curiosities. At the top, a wooden horse on wheels travels along the edge of a dense, almost totemic vegetative band, where two archaic figures in fiery red seem to emerge from the foliage. The white shelf, defined with rigorous linework, immediately establishes the logic of a diorama: each level operates as an autonomous microcosm, suspended in its own gravity and temporality.

Lower down, the orthogonal division creates chambers that toy with scale and symbols of childhood. A figure evocative of a Velázquez infanta and a resting dog occupy cobalt-hued niches, while adjacent to them, an acid-green room houses a painting within the painting, dominated by a schematic beast and a tiny red ladder suggesting an impossible ascent. Just below, a band textured like an Oriental tapestry inscribed with handwritten calligraphy serves as a stage for two cut-out ballerinas caught mid-spin, resembling musical notes upon an indecipherable score.

At the base, the atmosphere deepens toward cobalt blue. A toy train travels across a gridded floor, releasing a dense plume of white smoke, tactile and impastoed against the scraped wall. To its right, a yellow façade with an arched, shadowed threshold and scribbled script reiterates the mystery of passage and memory. The painted surface alternates rough impasto with satin-smooth planes and direct sgraffito into the canvas. Roberto Puente constructs a poetic inventory where the playful toy sheds its ordinary lightness, turning into an enigmatic reliquary governed by the stillness of dreams.
