Curatorial analysis

An architecture of niches and drawers divides the canvas into a vertical sequence of secret chambers, where monumental scale and a universe of toys coexist. Roberto Puente sets forth a cabinet of stratified memories in which each compartment operates under its own laws of gravity and light. Above, a golden-framed window looks out toward a calm sea with a low horizon; at the foot of the frame, a tiny red ladder accentuates the disproportion and suggests an impossible passage between the interior and the distance.

This tension of measurements governs the central body. On the left, a wheeled wooden horse occupies an upper niche while below, in front of a wall of faded calligraphy, waits the black silhouette of a solitary man. Beside them, in a double-height chamber lined with green patterns evoking gearwheels or mechanical rosettes, stands a blue piano perched on disproportionately tall legs. Its cast shadow and a smaller echo in the background reinforce a theatrical atmosphere of metaphysical undertones, where objects seem to have gained autonomy in the absence of witnesses.

Toward the base, the narrative grows denser in pictorial matter. A red band with arabesques houses three ballerina cutouts in classical dance poses, suspended above a neutral ledge. Immediately below, across a receding checkerboard floor, moves a tin toy train whose chimney releases a thick cloud of white smoke against an expressionistic ground of layered greens and yellows.

The painting deliberately oscillates between the graphic sharpness of outlines and the simulated wear of surfaces, allowing each tier to function as an archived fragment of a dream. Puente transforms the elongated support into a secular altarpiece in which childhood, the unreachable landscape, and solitude coexist within a single geological cross-section of memory.
