Curatorial analysis

A checkered floor recedes toward a horizon that leads not to nature, but to an imposing scenographic backdrop. Across this two-meter-wide expanse, Roberto Puente suspends conventional spatial logic and scale to build a theater of enigmas where childhood play and colossal architecture coexist without explanation.

The lower third of the canvas anchors the scene on a tiled ground, treated with glazes and abrasions that soften its geometric rigor. Across it travels a toy train puffing a solid plume of white smoke, minuscule against the monumental masses rising behind it. In the background, the surface breaks into dense chromatic blocks: on the left, an ochre mass inscribed with overlapping gear wheels; in the center, a vermilion peak charged with textured matter and abstract shadows; on the right, a faceted volume of polychrome tiles pierced by a dark archway.

Human presence appears dislocated through isolated occurrences. A tiny acrobat balances upon a floating ledge against the crimson wall, while toward the center stands an ethereal blue skeletal structure, solitary and slender. Further to the right, handwritten cursive script floats across the wall like a forgotten note or the silent score of this theatrical stage.

The acrylic medium operates through both impasto and scraping, alternating passages of pure saturation with weathered sections where light seems to filter from underneath. This oscillation between the linear precision of the tiles and the rugged texture of the walls turns the expanse into a metaphysical plaza, suspended between nostalgic play and the expectant silence before a performance begins.
