Curatorial analysis

A steam locomotive glides suspended across the pale sky as though the air itself supplied invisible tracks, crossing directly over the snow-capped peak of a symmetrical volcano. Beneath this aerial passage, the Andean landscape rolls into soft hills descending toward a central clearing where the customary scale of the world is completely dismantled. In this open plaza, a watermelon, a pineapple, an orange, and a green apple rest on the ground as rounded monuments that dwarf the miniature villagers strolling nearby.

The settlement frames this clearing through a dense architecture of whitewashed walls and vibrant, patterned roofs, each rendered in a meticulous sequence of purples, turquoises, pinks, and ochres. This patient, graphic brushwork contrasts with the sculptural fullness of the spiraling horn that lends the canvas its title, its striped blue and lilac body pouring fruit directly onto the ground. There are no cast shadows or dramatic chiaroscuro: the light remains clear and uniform, distributed with the clarity of a miniature where every tile, train carriage, and human silhouette claims an equal right to focus.

Such an interplay between communal routine and wonder positions the scene where classical myth becomes native to mountain life. Agricultural prosperity is not shown as arduous labor, but as a generous, joyful abundance that effortlessly coexists with hilltop trees bearing outsized fruit. Across just twenty by twenty-four centimeters of canvas, the composition articulates a vision of complete harmony, where the machine floating in the sky and the harvest blossoming in the valley inhabit a geography where the miraculous belongs to the everyday order of things.
