Curatorial analysis

An unfathomable, nocturnal blue dominates the canvas, functioning simultaneously as a backdrop, theatrical penumbra, and aquatic atmosphere. Amidst this chromatic density, Roberto Puente suspends a silent choreography: four sky-blue silhouettes float in a horizontal frieze, frozen in an aerial arabesque that defies gravity. They are almost spectral presences, integrated into the blue that engulfs them while sustaining them in a rigorous serial rhythm.

Below, in the lower right corner, a fifth ballerina disrupts the symmetry. Her solitary silhouette, rendered in luminous ochre, contrasts with the surrounding darkness and the distance separating her from the suspended group. This tension of scale and placement immediately introduces a reading of solitude or transfiguration, engaging in a powerful dialogue with the title of the piece and the theatrical myth of Odette, trapped between the earth and the reverie of the lake.

The surface operates as a complex palimpsest. Beneath deep glazes of cobalt and emerald green emerge ornamental stencils, filigrees reminiscent of lace, and illegible hand-scripted calligraphy, resembling the fragments of a forgotten musical score or an ancient letter. These markings endow the canvas with tactile memory, where matter does not merely illustrate movement, but accumulates time and visual strata. Toward the left, a small light-blue sphere rests upon vegetal structures and arabesques, anchoring another enigmatic focal point.

The entire composition is enclosed by a perimeter border of red zigzags over a golden ground, a painted frame recalling traditional folk patterns and liturgical ornamentation. This boundary is not a mere decorative trim, but a device that turns the oneiric dance space into a proscenium box or a reliquary, transforming the choreographic vision into an intimate, devotional icon.
