Curatorial analysis

Movement precedes form. In this canvas measuring one meter by one meter thirty, four female figures, or perhaps a single one multiplied across time, rehearse a choreographic cadence that dissolves into the air. The vibration of the extended arms does not seek to freeze a single exact instant, but rather to capture the physical wake of the action: rapid, horizontal brushstrokes sweep across the torsos, crossing cerulean and greenish glazes over the fiery warmth of the tutus. In this blur there is a cinematic echo, an overlap of frames where the body surrenders its solidity to become pure transit.

In contrast to that gestural agitation, the faces retain an almost sculptural stillness. Modeled with synthetic planes and a palette of ivories and broken shadows, the features emerge from the gloom with eyes cast downward or blind to the viewer's gaze. There is no theatrical anecdote or visible scenography here; a deep background of dense browns and blacks cancels any spatial coordinate and thrusts the bodies into the foreground. That absolute darkness functions as a resonance chamber, allowing the incandescent vermilions and oranges of the skirts to burst across the lower half with the force of a contained flare.

The title steers the reading toward an interior temporality: the steps do not take place on a physical stage, but within the folds of recollection. The pictorial matter, laid down with a palette knife or loaded brush on the garments and refined along the contours of the skin, sustains a constant tension between the discipline of the classical canon and the visceral disorder of memory. Each figure seems to recall the previous one and announce the next, articulating a continuity in which dance ceases to be muscular exercise and reveals itself as an indelible trace of light against shadow.
