Curatorial analysis

The body arches backward in a surge that feels as much like a fall as a takeoff. The dominant axis is an ascending diagonal stretching from the tension of arms swept downward to the face thrown toward the zenith, suspended in a trance of surrender or detachment. There is no firm ground or recognizable horizon; the figure floats and dissolves within a tempestuous atmosphere where the boundary between skin and space is dissolved by the radiant intensity of the core.

That central light, worked in thick white impastos and pale yellowish washes, bursts across the chest like a luminous fracture. Against this frontal clarity, the paint operates through sharp planes, scumbling, and directional strokes that break the anatomy into almost prismatic facets. Incidental sparks of cadmium orange and vermilion act as thermal triggers that enliven the surrounding coolness, creating a vibrant counterpoint against the sea of nocturnal blues, ultramarines, and deep purples framing the edges. The hands, barely suggested in tense, claw-like or wing-like gestures, anchor the lower half with dramatic weight that contrasts with the weightlessness of the torso.

The title's reference immediately evokes a metamorphosis. Rather than a literal depiction of a bird, what emerges across the canvas is the precise moment when the human form assumes an avian condition: the rib cage seems to spread like plumage under the rush of wind, while the exposed throat suggests a silent cry or a song defying the surrounding gloom. This duality between physical torment and ethereal release endows the canvas with an unmistakable existential resonance, where flight is not presented as a placid act, but as a conquest wrested from the dark.
