Curatorial analysis

An oblique threshold fractures the scene and establishes a violent clash between two worlds. In the background, a marine night breathes with the calm of cobalt blue and dense waters, pierced only by the shimmering reflection of the full moon that lends the painting its title. Inside, on the contrary, matter erupts in an almost feverish saturation where acid green, carmine, and canary yellow coexist. This tension between the nocturnal infinity and the ornamental confinement defines the canvas's magnetism, continuously compelling the viewer's gaze to shift from the exterior stillness to the vertigo of the room.

The construction of space defies the laws of traditional perspective. The floor rises with a kaleidoscopic mosaic of geometric tiles, whose fractured rhythms accelerate the ground plane forward. The lateral walls, teeming with flat vegetation and fleshy flowers treated with vigorous impasto, negate depth and return the eye to the pictorial surface. To the left, an oval frame encloses a hypnotic concentric spiral that echoes the botanical curvature, while the open door, foreshortened with sinuous lines and polychrome compartments resembling stained glass, acts as both a physical and psychological hinge.

Crowning the lintel, a mauve-toned feline with an incisive gaze watches over the passage. Its arched body, almost merged with the organic contours of the molding, introduces a totemic and enigmatic presence: it is the guardian of a passage that does not merely divide an inside from an outside, but rather overcharged wakefulness from the serene dream of the sea. The brushwork, generous in the impasto of the water and the petals that dot the wall, endows this intersection of playful figuration and reverie with an inescapable tactile force.
