Curatorial analysis

An engulfing, vertical blue dominates the entire surface, blurring any tangible boundary between atmosphere, rain, and aquatic depth. On this large-format canvas, the paint does not operate as a mere scenic backdrop, but rather as an all-encompassing mass of glazes, drips, and scrapings that suspend the gaze within a watery, vaporous territory where gravity seems to have lost its customary weight.

Within this ocean of pigment emerge four diminutive silhouettes of children, rendered with an economy of line bordering on oriental calligraphy. Arranged along a subtly ascending diagonal axis, the figures hold nearly invisible fishing rods. Two of them achieve greater definition toward the center: one stands upright in back or profile view, while its companion bends over the reflection. At their feet, brief black graphic eddies condense the water, offering a transitory foothold, a precarious anchor amidst the vastness.

In the lower half, the material gains textural and chromatic density. The pale turquoises and sky blues above yield to a deep Prussian blue, mingled with moss greens and energetic dark strokes evoking submerged vegetation or the floor of a shadowy lagoon. Sgraffito lines and free dripping traverse the plane from top to bottom, confronting the aerial lightness of the figures with the abyssal thickness of the medium.

The scene summons an atmosphere of remote memory and solitary contemplation: childhood does not appear as an anecdotal narrative, but as a minimal, vulnerable presence suspended in time. Between the graphic solidity of the drawing and the ethereal dissolution of the oil paint, the fishing children inhabit a mental landscape where the act of waiting beside the water becomes infinite.
