Curatorial analysis

Thousands of densely arranged plant thorns turn the anthropomorphic silhouette into a bristling shell, inaccessible to touch yet irresistible to the gaze. This prickly epidermis defies the soft condition of the human body, replacing skin with an armor reminiscent of botanical or animal defenses. The material, accumulated in an almost obsessive manner, generates an optical vibration where deep browns, dry ochres, and coppery sheens compete under the light, endowing the volume with a breath that feels both organic and menacing.

Standing at one hundred and twenty centimeters, the figure engages with the scale of a child or a mannequin stripped of artifice. Its posture introduces an unresolved tension in which the right leg appears to steady itself while the left arm flexes outward, frozen in a gesture that can be read equally as a greeting or an attempt to keep the viewer at bay. There is an intrinsic helplessness in that stance that contrasts sharply with the hostility of its coating. The work deliberately plays with this oscillation between the vulnerability of being and the armor constructed to shield oneself from the environment.

The abrupt cut at neck level defines the critical meaning of the ensemble. Rather than a head, the piece terminates in a regular, cleanly edged rim of pale tone, exposing the internal architecture of the volume as if it were the hollow shaft of a column. The absence of a face negates any individual reading and shifts meaning toward a psychological state. Titled Mente en blanco 1, the figure materializes a disturbing paradox: a suspended, mute, and severed consciousness, supported by a body ablaze with peripheral hypersensitivity, where every centimeter acts as a nerve ending on permanent guard against the world.
