Curatorial analysis
A voracious plant mass seizes the gaze without granting a single conventional vanishing point. The canvas dispenses with the horizon line and places the viewer at ground level, submerged in the density of the tropical understory. There is no contemplative distance possible before two meters of width governed by the vital disorder of the thicket, where fleshy leaves, ribs, and vines intersect in perpetual movement.
The order of this thicket is established by the slender stalks that cross the plane vertically like dark and coppery poles. They function as a natural grating that sets the tempo of the painting and contains the meandering curves of the lower foliage. Toward the upper right third, a solitary, erect inflorescence ignites a red flame that justifies its presence as a nucleus of magnetic attraction. It does not compete with the rest of the scene through size but through chromatic purity, concentrating light tension against the surrounding cold shadows.
Behind this organic palisade, a seepage of golden light breaks through the upper center and casts bluish and violet reflections across the foreground leaves. This intervention of cold tones within the shadows strips green of its purely botanical reading, turning it into vibrant matter. The brushwork does not delineate sharp contours; it traces oil-laden waves that twist every leaf until imbuing it with an almost animal pulse, palpable in the thickness of the pigment across the canvas.
The painting proposes an experience of total immersion into a nature that refuses to be tamed. By shutting out the sky and saturating every centimeter with intertwined rhythms, the scene suggests a living, self-sufficient organism where the red flower is no mere ornament, but the secret pulse sustaining the foliage's mystery.
