Curatorial analysis

The forest burns without being consumed in a direct chromatic tension. Rather than yielding to the serenity often attributed to twilight, the scene bursts forth through a deliberate clash between cobalt and ultramarine blues and fiery oranges. The trunks do not stand out of mere botanical fidelity, but through a sinuous ribbing of dark lines and cerulean reflections that wind vertically, channeling a telluric energy that overflows the conventions of traditional landscape painting. Each tree is both pillar and flame, articulating a grove where the vegetation seems to acquire an animal pulse.

Depth is achieved without relying on a conventional geometric perspective: it rises as a rhythmic, dense lattice. Between the trunks ascending toward the upper boundary of the plane, the background dissolves into bursts of luminous yellow and pale cream, seepages of light that operate not as a passive backdrop, but as an active force pushing forward and fracturing the silhouettes. In the lower register, the forest floor breaks apart into a vibrant mosaic of red, ochre, and green impastos. The light not only illuminates the leaf litter but sets it ablaze in broken patches that fragment the horizontal ground, compelling the gaze to traverse the surface in continuous agitation.

Through this fragmented handling of short, gestural strokes, the setting acquires the resonance of a psychological experience rather than a documentary record. The twisted trunks operate like a visual score, a dense threshold between the shadow of the foreground and the solar reverberation struggling to filter through the canopy. The sunset ceases to be a record of passing hours, becoming instead a contest between the warmth of the earth and the ascending gloom, preserving the intensity of a forest that refuses to fade before the onset of night.
