Curatorial analysis

A fleur-de-lis, sober and of an almost architectural rigidity, withstands the siege of a dense mist of ash, charcoal, and faint glints of rust. Rather than functioning as a mere courtly ornament, the insignia appears here as a vestige rescued from shadow or a spectre struggling not to dissolve into pictorial matter. Around it, the atmosphere is neither flat nor static: it wavers between humid glazes and a tangle of filiform white lines floating across the lower third, tracing paths akin to air currents, vibrations, or dispersion maps.

The vertical framing of the printed image contains this almost claustrophobic density, yet the composition eludes its own boundaries. At the bottom edge of the rectangle, an emphatic white script declares "En el mismo", marking a threshold that visual thought immediately overflows. Onto the blank paper, in the faint hand of graphite, the phrase completes itself downward ("lugar / la misma gente"), laying bare the relationship between the pictorial field and the paper supporting it. This textual spill carries the gaze from the illusion of the wash to the physical reality of the page, turning the wide lower margin into an active silence, essential for the words to resonate.

The manual intervention over the giclée introduces a dual temporality. The printed base anchors the atmospheric depth and the luminous nuances of chiaroscuro, while direct marks, calligraphic gestures, and white scratches inject the urgency of the unrepeatable. Running through this composition is a reflection on the wear of collective memory and the persistence of structures: the same symbols, the same spaces, and the same people caught in a cycle that the patina of time seems to soften but never truly erase.
