Curatorial analysis

A dizzying helicoidal descent organizes the scene, dissolving the boundaries between domestic architecture and cosmic space. From the upper apex, an ethereal figure draped in violet robes walks down the steps; in place of a face it bears an incandescent cluster of blossoms, and its hand holds aloft a cage wherein a captive crescent moon shines brightly. Behind it, the dark silhouette cast against the checkered wall introduces an unsettling doubling, while a lone feline edges downstairs with stealthy wariness.

The dominant curvature of the banister, ablaze in an earthy vermilion with openwork iron filigree, acts as the axis fracturing the plane and steering the gaze straight into the abyss. There, the stairwell ceases to be an architectural void and turns into a deep night dotted with stars, harboring a hovering checkered globe upon which tiny riders seem to conjure trails of starlight. This juxtaposition of scales warps the sense of gravity and shelter, transforming the descent into a fantastical rite of passage.

The pictorial surface is resolved through a dense weave of minute brushstrokes and scumbled textures that break down light into a vibrant mosaic. Midnight blues, purples, turquoises, and coppery glints overlap in layers that lend the steps a tactile grit, contrasting with the nearly vaporous weightlessness of the figure's mantle. The material seeks no sleek finish, opting instead for a ceaseless optical vibration where darkness is never flat, but rather a pulsating fabric of sparks.

By enclosing the moon inside a cage and supplanting the human gaze with a floral bloom, the work suggests a poetic reversal of confinement and vigilance: the descending presence carries its own illumination while the abyss below sustains a whimsical universe, suspended in an orbit of its own.
