Curatorial analysis

A circular vertigo absorbs the gaze from the very first moment. In this nearly square canvas, the bird's-eye perspective curves like a fisheye lens, turning a helical staircase into an architectural vortex. Space does not pursue the logic of gravity, but rather an ongoing tension between ascent and free fall.

The central core bursts into warm tones (solar yellows, tile reds, and vivid pinks) arranged in geometric paving that suggests an interior enclosure or cloistered courtyard. Wrapping around this luminous focus, an energetic spiral of ultramarine blues, dense purples, and pitch-black shadows unfurls, fracturing the steps into crystalline facets. Thick black lines, reminiscent of stained-glass leadwork, segment the color and lend an unforgiving rhythmic pulse, accentuated by balustrades that seem to twist into the void.

Three cats inhabit this impossible structure with sinuous, elastic anatomies. One, tinted in fuchsia, watches alertly from atop a column; a second orange feline climbs down the central vertical axis with wide, glowing eyes and splayed claws; the third, camouflaged within the cold shadows on the right, creeps like a liquid presence melded into the background arabesques. The figures do not simply decorate the setting; they act as sentinels of a dreamlike domain that appears to revolve endlessly beneath their paws.

The pigment settles with planar determination across the larger surfaces, yet vibrates within the gestural treatment of the fur and the marbling veins along the steps. A clear dialogue emerges between the constructive rigidity of the linework and the psychological abandon of the palette, hovering between wakefulness and domestic nightmare. Tapia resolves the labyrinth by placing the viewer's eye at the precise pivot of the spiral.
