Curatorial analysis

A ring of clay-modeled footwear rests on the ground, instantly evoking the traditional children's counting-out rhyme. The circular arrangement establishes an open symmetry whose empty center functions as a silent stage: rather than clothing active bodies, each piece lingers in the earthen material that shaped it. There are no feet inside, only shadowed cavities that speak of a shared absence.

Rhythm emerges through the distinct individuality of each unit. Chunky ankle boots, thick-strapped sandals, sneakers with pierced eyelets, and rustic slip-ons alternate their orientations along the perimeter. Some face outward while others turn toward the center of the ring, creating directional tensions that break any geometric monotony. The proportions do not strive for exact anatomical replication; instead, they condense the worn, deformed volume of prolonged use, petrifying leather and fabric into fired ceramic.

The material bears the thermal shifts of the kiln. The clay shifts from glowing terracottas and earthy siennas to carbonized smoky blacks concentrated around seams, soles, and folds. These chromatic gradations evoke the soot, dust, and grime of daily wear, lending the surface a rough, tactile, and thoroughly telluric texture. Light sweeps across the hand-built rims, revealing finger impressions and incisions that trace tongues, tread patterns, and faux laces.

The childhood game referenced by the title takes on a different weight at this scale. What exists in everyday memory as a playful formula for turns and eliminations becomes here a circle of domestic relics where time itself seems suspended. By elevating such mundane items through the durable fragility of ceramic, the installation preserves the traces of growth and the vanished steps of a community held in stillness.
