Curatorial analysis

An architecture stripped of matter organizes the space with the precision of a sacred plan. Edwin Cantillo erects a precinct here where gravity is suspended: at the center, a truncated stairway ascends toward nothingness through seven trapezoidal bands whose metallic gradient simulates the cold sheen of steel or tempered glass. This ascent culminates before an upper opening, structured like a liturgical window, whose stained-glass design condenses indigo and purple tones around a central white triangle that serves as an inescapable optical focus.

The entire visual order is governed by a strict framework of black lines articulating solids and voids. Flanking the sides, narrow vertical bands act as virtual pillars or mullions, while a horizontal beam fragmented into luminous modules seems to support the very air upon which the steps rest. The background planes, rendered in a bluish-gray atmosphere of immaculate cleanliness, accentuate the distance between elements and reinforce a sense of acoustic isolation, bordering on absolute silence.

Toward the base, the compositional scheme breaks in a subtle manner. Rather than strict symmetry, a black line traces an angular shift delineating a lighter plane, anchored in the lower right corner by a colorful grid reminiscent of neoplasticism. That low counterpoint does not undermine the elevation of the whole; instead, it provides an essential terrestrial anchor that allows the rest to float.

The subtle interplay between the firmness of line and the refractory glow of light blue hues transforms an apparently cold geometry into a metaphysical experience. The sanctuary Cantillo proposes belongs to no known liturgy, but to the pursuit of a pure mental order in which light, dispensed in calculated gleams, constructs its own temple.
