Curatorial analysis

Three colossal volumes occupy a space that barely seems to contain them. Black ink does not define the flesh here through accumulation of matter, but through its calculated absence: the bodies of these three women emerge from the clean whiteness of the Fabriano paper, bound only by sinuous outlines marking folds, heavy hips, and massive limbs. In contrast to that luminous, uncluttered skin, an obsessive weave of cross-hatching, stippling, and dark filaments saturates the background and voluminous manes, creating an almost cavernous atmosphere around the scene.

The scene captures a moment of domestic, playful complicity. Perched on rustic wooden stools that visually groan under their overflowing weight, the three figures gather around a tiny table for a game of cards. There is a subtle interplay of gazes and postures: the figure seen from behind presents a rounded anatomy that ushers the viewer into the private circle, the central figure holds her cards with stoic frontality beneath a dotted necklace, and the one on the right shields her hand in deep concentration while her hair spills outward like a dark gust. Their hair merges above into a continuous canopy, unifying their presences into a single architectural mass.

The contrast between the furniture's fragility and the bodies' excess introduces a warm irony, stripped of any derisive edge. Operating within a modest format of twenty-five by thirty-two centimeters, the graphic mark condenses a monumental force akin to large-scale sculpture. The screenprint preserves the vibration of the original penwork, where every hatched line builds shadow and spatial tension, allowing the bare paper to breathe as pure bodily radiance. The card game thus transforms into an uninhibited celebration of gravitas, female camaraderie, and the sensuality of line.
