Curatorial analysis

A relentless, solid blue sky serves as the backdrop for a tangle of electrical wires that traverses the pictorial space with an almost nervous energy. In this ascent through El Cerrito, in Barrio Luján, the city does not pose with monumental neatness; instead, it manifests through its domestic architecture, steep slopes, and that quintessential aerial grid that often goes unnoticed, yet here assumes a foundational prominence.

The black line, reminiscent of an architectural sketch heightened by expressive impulse, structures the houses along both sides of the roadway. These contours do not seek to enclose volumes with mathematical exactness, but rather to seize the precarious nature of the slopes and the jumble of roofs, utility poles, and eaves. Over this linear framework, pure chromatic fields are laid down (a vibrant apple green, an intense red, dry ochre, and earthy tones) that enter into direct dialogue with the bare white of the paper.

The silkscreen technique modulates the surface by combining two contrasting methods, confronting the density of saturated color planes with a stippled, porous texture that builds the street and certain façades. This granular effect along the incline not only adds material weight to the road, but also evokes the roughness of worn asphalt and the glare of sunlight reflecting off the pavement.

The low viewpoint, set at the foot of the hill, forces a perspective that propels the gaze toward the crest of the street, where the incline seems to meet the sky. Rather than a mere documentary account of the neighborhood, the scene distills a sensory experience of the urban landscape of San José: an environment where daily fragility, tangled wiring, and the vibrant hues of painted houses coalesce into a graphic rhythm brimming with freshness and visual vigor.
