Curatorial analysis

A dense, compact block of darkness frames the scene, forcing the gaze to enter through a narrow, vertical opening. Within that aperture rising toward the heights bursts a clean, nocturnal cerulean blue sky, where a pure yellow crescent moon gravitates. Night here is not a homogeneous background but an enveloping, almost corporeal mass that presses in from the flanks upon the precarious architecture emerging in the lower half.

That architecture resolves into a cluster of huddled shacks, arranged like geological strata of tin, wood, and color. Small planes of red, yellow, green, and white puncture the dominion of shadows, glowing with the intensity of inhabited beacons. Nervous, fractured black lines define the skeleton of the gabled roofs and summon a forest of makeshift antennas and television crosses that scratch at the sky. The visual rhythm is syncopated: the geometric stiffness of triangular and rectangular planes is tempered by the apparent fragility with which the structures rest upon one another.

Toward the base, the deep black fades into a granular stipple, allowing the pristine white of the printed sheet to breathe through. This transition lightens the overall weight and hints at earthly mist or a suspension in void, untethering the settlement from any recognizable ground. The silkscreen process harnesses opaque ink to generate sharp contrasts, endowing the print with an immediate graphic dramatism.

The piece posits a poignant paradox where urban precariousness and lyrical tenderness coexist without canceling each other out. Stripped of sordid anecdote, the shantytown reorganizes as a luminous, almost sacred organism watched over by the celestial body. In that tension between the dark enclosure and the chromatic haven, the scene turns crowded living into a communal celebration of endurance and nocturnal poetry.
