Curatorial analysis

A steep slope plunges in a scaffolding of broken planes and schematic volumes. Rafael Ángel García concentrates a cluster of architectures on the left flank that appear to hold together through mere friction, condensing the fragility of human settlement through a nervous, broken, almost shorthand black line. The stroke does not define solid walls, but rather the hurried, shifting pulse of shanties cascading toward the shore.

In contrast to this material compression, the space breathes toward the center and the right thanks to a sky of golden and gray nuances, achieved through a silkscreen grain that simulates suspended luminous dust. A network of electrical cables sags under its own weight from the facades, punctuated by small black nodes. These overhead lines do not operate as mere urban documentation: they trace an authentic visual staff that crosses the void, counterbalancing the terrain's slope and preventing the weight of the roofs from destabilizing the frame.

The palette acts with a vibrant structural independence. Flat fields of ultramarine blue, terracotta orange, and warm yellow engage in dialogue with the drawing without remaining fully locked inside it; they shift, illuminate openings, and accentuate blind planes with the freshness of a collage. Although the title anticipates a green landscape, the artist diverts the gaze toward a mineral and coastal brilliance, reserving earthy and greenish tones merely for the shadows and the rough scumbling along the bottom strip.

What remains in the print is the testimony of a precarious habitat transformed into a rhythmic occurrence. The screenprint strips the settlement of all documentary anecdote and elevates it into a choreography of daring balances, where the landscape's solidity lies not in the foundations of the dwellings, but in the impeccable relationship between expressive line and light.
