Curatorial analysis

The overwhelming weight of black commands the scene, yet it is the solar yellow that brings breath and mystery to this print. In Muelle, the wood yields to the gouge to reveal an atmosphere of silent coastal waiting. The dark mass of the building and the dock platform dominates the right half, anchoring the gaze in an almost impenetrable plane from which two human presences emerge: a man seated at the edge, folded into himself, and a woman standing in the doorway, outlined solely by fine incisions that let the background light filter through.

The verticality of the masts on the left balances the solid block of the structure, while the mooring ropes trace tense diagonals connecting the platform with the rocky shore below. Along the roofline, a group of shorebirds and scavengers watches the surroundings with the same stillness as the dock's inhabitants; their silhouetted presence adds a stark, almost totemic rhythm against the glowing sky. In the water, the gouge works in horizontal grooves that fragment the warm reflection, generating an optical vibration that contrasts with the static weight of the figures.

This tension between the inked block and the carved void imbues the piece with a shared solitude. The meeting of sea and land is not framed here as a picturesque vignette, but as a territory of vigil where time feels suspended. The warmth of the yellow background does not dispel the shadow: it accompanies it, wrapping the characters' isolation in a lucid dimness that situates harbor life between departure and memory.
