Curatorial analysis

The edge of the white blades, sharp and incorporeal, concentrates the first charge of danger. They spring from invisible or monstrous hands emerging from the gloom, framing a scene where everyday space has been assaulted by nightmare. Francisco Amighetti orchestrates an ambush where domestic architecture and tropical nature cease to be shelter, turning instead into accomplices to the siege.

The eye is torn between the cavernous density of the foreground and the reddish brightness framing the central doorway. In that threshold, cut out against a terra-cotta red that vibrates with the memory of peril, wait the victims: upright, almost static figures whose vulnerability is heightened by the stiffness of their posture before the imminence of the blow. Around them, crouching among rough trunks and banana leaves rendered as solid masses of shadow, prowl creatures with clenched profiles and bared teeth. A bird in mid-flight crosses the rarefied air, functioning as an omen or as a blind witness to the hunt.

The print masterfully exposes the physical nature of wood. Rather than concealing the matrix, Amighetti lets the grain breathe in the intermediate fields, creating a striated, grayish texture that sifts the light like dirty drizzle across the background. This contrast between the gouge-carved wood and the flat blocks of absolute black intensifies the dramaturgy: the incised lines not only trace anatomical contours, but tear across the surface with the very ritual violence heralded by the daggers.

The work does not narrate an isolated crime but the state of siege bred by fear. It is the transfiguration of aggression into a suffocating atmosphere, where the tropical night acquires predatory eyes and the illuminated doorway ceases to be an exit, turning into a fatal trap.
