Curatorial analysis

Catastrophe manifests here as a hallucinatory feast. A torrent of lava cascades down from an eruptive cone suspended near the top, breaking into a sea of fire that devours the base of the canvas. Yet the structures that succumb or endure do not belong to any recognizable geography: they are baroque towers, domes echoing Gaudí, organic spirals, and spires topped with spheres and arabesques. A hybrid architectural universe is thus articulated, where urban fantasy is besieged by mineral fury.

The central tension of the surface lies in the frontal collision of two painterly treatments. On one hand, the architecture and the daytime sky operate under an impeccable graphic logic, outlined with thick black strokes reminiscent of stained glass or psychedelic illustration, filled with saturated planes of violet, magenta, warm yellow, and lime green. On the other hand, the eruption and the flames break free from that linear discipline through dense, almost sculptural matter: energetic impastos of yellows, reds, and ash worked with short strokes and physical relief, protruding from the support to catch light with a tactile, volcanic texture.

Amidst this sumptuous cataclysm, the scene avoids tragic drama to embrace an uncanny vitality. In the upper right corner, a four-legged figure observes from a balcony with round, imperturbable eyes, embodying the spectator's gaze before a spectacle that feels more celebratory than destructive. The smoke does not suffocate; rather, it blooms in a multicolored canopy against a clear blue sky. Destruction becomes an act of chromatic exuberance, where dreamed architecture and telluric energy merge into a single visual pulse.
