Sonido

A semicircular crown of orange foliage, dense and incandescent, hovers over a mineral void of nocturnal atmosphere. In this large format, Jorge Rojas Alfaro avoids all traditional landscape anecdote, dispensing with visible branches or descriptive skies to erect a totemic plant presence that concentrates the painting's luminous energy. The treetop, constructed through a meticulous stippling of impasto that grants tactile relief to each fragment of foliage, is supported by a barely hinted trunk whose clean triangular cut rests on a waterline so sharp that it defies the laws of weight and gravity.

Beneath this ignited chromatic mass spreads a vast expanse of umber shadows and burnt earths, worked with an atmospheric gradation and a mottling that recalls the porosity of volcanic stone or the warmth of damp clay. Just along the lower middle section, a fine horizontal band formed by small geometric incisions, resembling a relief of pre-Columbian frets, crosses the surface from side to side. This linear frieze not only establishes an optical boundary within the space, but operates as a cultural anchor: it links the botanical monumentality to a terrestrial stratum charged with order, memory, and archaeology.

By designating the piece with the title Sonido, the viewer's gaze is guided toward a synesthetic experience. The rhythmic, modulated vibration of the vermilion, set against the dense and enveloping silence of the dark brown shadows, functions as the visual propagation of a continuous frequency, akin to a pedal point reverberating in an enclosed chamber. The collision between the precise geometry of the canopy and the granular texture of the pigment transforms the tree into an artifact of deliberate resonance, where the pictorial matter seems to emit a sustained pulse, suspended forever before the viewer.
