Curatorial analysis

The glow of aged gold commands the surface long before the eye manages to decipher any individual sign. A textured veil of toasted ochres, amber, and warm gleams occupies almost the entire plane, conceived like a mineral skin or a ceremonial wall weathered by time. Along its edges, stepped bands structure the space in the manner of a niche or a sacred portal.

Against this radiant ground, a rigorously contained vertical axis organizes the mystical experience. In the center, a deep, dark rectangle operates as a funerary chamber or a stone stela. Inside that nocturnal window, delicate gold lines emerge to evoke a pre-Columbian pantheon: the undulating serpent in the lower register, sheltered beneath an arch, and above it a winged or shamanic entity with spiral horns, flanked by crescent moons and arcane glyphs. A tiny spiral at the top connects to this core through threads of stippled dots that act as a subtle cosmic emanation.

Toward the lower third, the symmetrical order breaks into organic dynamism. A zoomorphic figure with a piercing gaze and curved plumage, recalling a raptor or the feathered serpent, emerges from the gold with clean, veiled black line work. Its turn counterpoints the rigidity of the central cartouche, granting the piece an earthly vibration in contrast to the cosmic stillness above.

Rojas Alfaro constructs here a visual talisman in which painterly matter mimics goldsmith relief and carved stone. The contrast between the incandescent warmth of the background and the twilight of the central sanctuary transforms the canvas into a site of dawn revelation, a passage between primordial darkness and solar birth.
