Curatorial analysis

The painting operates like a window folding in on itself. A concentric frame of deep cobalts, vibrant ceruleans, and dry-brushed whites borders the central scene, lending the image the hierarchical weight of a botanical altarpiece or an enlarged printmaker’s seal. Rather than yielding to traditional perspective, the space is structured through suspended chromatic planes, horizontal strata that float weightlessly over a roughly textured white ground.

At the center, the pink blooming of the roble de sabana is reduced to its purest synthesis. Slender trunks and vibrant fuchsia crowns punctuate the mid-horizon against a blue mass, defying any mimetic reading to settle within the territory of the sign. This fragile, rhythmic row of trees enters into direct dialogue with the lower band: a green mass enclosing a regular grid of yellow vertical lines, reminiscent of a plantation or a rural palisade imposing geometric order upon the land.

Above, another cloud of luminous green balances the material weight of the composition. The paint surface makes itself evident along every edge: brush bristles fray, and the thick pigment resists any polished finish, exposing the gesture's friction against the canvas. There is a remarkable economy of elements, where each vegetative stripe seems to condense an entire seasonal cycle of the dry tropical landscape.

This tension between the artificial enclosure of the borders and the overflowing vividness of the pigments endows the piece with an intimate quality. Rather than serving as a topographical record of the savanna, the canvas captures the luminous memory of a seasonal moment in which flowering disrupts the foliage's monotony.
