Curatorial analysis

The pink poui bursts across the canvas not as a mere botanical record, but as an almost electrical discharge of matter and pigment. The entire upper half of the painting is overtaken by a dense, vibrating mass of pinks, magentas, and whites, flecked occasionally with sparks of ochre that suggest the filtering of dry, vertical sunlight. In contrast to this chromatic euphoria, the muted neutral and grayish glazes of the background operate as a silent atmosphere, allowing the canopy to expand toward all four edges with the force of a weather event.

Bearing such visual weight, the trunk emerges from the bottom with a monolithic presence. The material here becomes dense, almost sculptural: dark and earthy furrows outline the bark through incisions and heavy impasto likely applied with a palette knife, accentuating the grip of the roots on a carpet of fallen petals. As the trunk forks upward, the limbs shed their rigidity, breaking into nervous, dark veins that snake through the flowers, weaving a structural web that anchors the canopy's vibration without compromising its momentum.

At a height of over one meter, the tree takes on a monumental scale that envelops the viewer's gaze. The physical texture of the acrylic, built up in minute ridges that cast micro-shadows across the surface, transforms the act of blooming into a thoroughly tactile event. In the imagery of the Central American landscape, the flowering of the roble de sabana signals the climax of the dry season, that exact moment when surrounding aridity clashes radically with the exuberance of the canopy. That paradox between parched ground and arboreal rebirth finds a tangible resonance here, where nature is not observed from afar, but felt through its own overflowing pulse.
