Curatorial analysis

A botanical tide invades the surface from below and disputes the space with a severe mineral curtain. In this decidedly panoramic format measuring one by nearly two meters, Álvaro Gómez proposes a gravitational clash: while hundreds of spherical corollas seem to float effervescently in a luminous ascent, a dense curtain of vertical drips descends from the upper edge like heavy rain or an eroded rock face.

The pictorial matter behaves here with a controlled liquidity that defies traditional definitions of foliage. Each flower is resolved through pigment pools where pure white, fiery violet, and ochre yellow are contained by slender dark contours formed by capillary tension. There are no discernible stems or individual leaves, but rather an accumulation of chromatic bulbs vibrating en masse. In the foreground, the petals expand to reveal watery transparencies; higher up, they diminish in caliber until merging with the streaks and drops of the grayish, earthy background.

This interaction between the dispersion of the calyxes and the vertical fall of the background establishes an almost musical rhythm, paced by an interior vibration of light. The upper half, worked through glazes and drips in ash, brown, and diluted ochre tones, retains the weight of gravity and brings a geological drama to the whole. In front of this veiled atmosphere, the blossoms do not rest passively, but rather burst forth with a luminous energy that seems to emerge from the canvas itself.

The outcome articulates a spring stripped of pastoral complacency, where plant vitality is sustained in equilibrium with the raw quality of the support and the mineral dripping. The eye oscillates between the tactile delight of each organic stain and the spectral stillness of the wall looming behind.
