Curatorial analysis

The burst of white cascading in an arc across a blue abyss establishes an immediate kinetic force. In Cascada II, the descent is not described through fixed contours, but manifests through a torrential shower of fine splatters, trails, and micro-droplets dispersed across the pictorial space. The vertical scale of the canvas, standing one and a half meters tall, envelops the viewer to amplify that sensation of vertigo: the flow seems to plummet from the upper margin and sweep vehemently toward the left flank, leaving in its wake a drift of suspended particles that saturate both the air and the marine depths.

Behind this torrent of light and foam operates a dense ground, constructed through successive glazes of ultramarine, cerulean, and cobalt blue. Upon closer inspection of the shadowy tones bordering the upper edges and sides, subtle ornamental imprints emerge (shapes evoking foliage or botanical lace) submerged beneath translucent glazes. This veiled presence generates a fascinating tension between the vehemence of the gestural splattering and an almost secret decorative order, anchoring the surface and granting the matter a stratified quality, as if the water were flowing over a submerged mineral memory.

The work's dynamic relies on a radical tonal contrast: the luminosity does not emanate from a light source outside the frame, but from the physical accumulation of white pigment on the support. In areas where the drops gather to the point of coagulating into dense crests, the acrylic refracts an almost phosphorescent whiteness, while toward the right a softer secondary branch complements the rhythm of the main cascade. The image thus oscillates between the memory of a recognizable natural phenomenon and the autonomy of pure painterly action, leaving the palpable impression of a suspended instant in which the current bursts against the void.
