Curatorial analysis

The sky does not merely accompany the mountain: it besieges it. A dense storm of purples, deep violets, and nocturnal vermilions erupts over the crest of the relief, where a chain of white lightning bolts fractures the cloud mass with sharp, electric strokes. Instead of plunging the landscape into the dimness of the storm, the tempest ignites the ridge with volcanic intensity, stripping it of any documentary realism.

The composition is anchored by three bands of contrasting energy. In the foreground, a field of luminous yellows and lime greens surges upward through quick, nervous, vertical brushstrokes that evoke grass trembling in the wind. Just behind, a grove of rounded canopies and ochre trunks serves as an earthy anchor, introducing an organic scale that accentuates the monumentality of the rocky masses rising at its back.

Across the body of Cerro Pelón, the painting abandons traditional chiaroscuro in favor of bold chromatic compartmentalization. Through thick dark contours reminiscent of synthetism, the slopes and peaks are divided into autonomous planes of unadulterated color, including saturated magentas, warm yellows, flat pinks, and emerald greens. These facets turn the stone into an almost crystalline structure, where each geological fold seems to radiate its own internal phosphorescence in direct dialogue with the sky's electrical discharges.

In this large-scale canvas (measuring nearly 1.8 meters across), an enduring tension exists between petrified stillness and the fleeting violence of the tropical climate. The paint, applied with dense dabs across the clouds and assertive impasto on the rock formations, captures the exact moment earth and atmosphere collide, transforming a recognizable geography into a vibrant vegetable and mineral epic.
